SOME THINGS HAVE CHANGED AT S.B.C.,
SOME, NOT SO MUCH ...
The Physics Lab in the 60s.

2013/2014
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS IS THE SICK BAY - NOT THE HILTON??? lol!!
(ExSSA-DALLAS, OH YAAAAY! Thank you for your work to keep the Sick Bay going!)
March-Past at the Community Field to celebrate Independence Day (1967)
NOW ...
(Whether they still do "Eyes Right" oh?!)

Right: 90s
THE STAFF ROOM!
(Tutors' mbondos must be rejoicing, with these cushioned chairs oh!! And there's a whole "mirror-mirror on the wall" too, Massa! Did I hear there's a Flat Screen TV as well?!)
The Renovated BURNLEY House.
(No more iron buckets, I guess?!)
KUDOS, ExSSA-CAMEROON, for a job well done!
AND HOW CAN THE SIGHT OF THIS POT (even though waaay too new & shiny) NOT BRING TO MIND ONE'S JOLLOH-JOLLOH MEAT SHARING/SERVING DAYS??!!
THE BAND!
Pictures of Saker Baptist College's BAND never fail to generate excitement and pride in all SAKERETTES. It is simply a JOY to see the girls looking "SHARP" in their uniforms, producing MUSIC in a way that deviates from the "TRADITIONAL" way SBC has done in the past - with BRIO.
It had crossed my mind a while back to find out more about this famous band, but I just never got around to it. AND THEN ...
I got a message via SakerPride from "a certain" Mr. ELIVE LUMA NGALE, who turned out to be ... not only "THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE PTA IN SAKER" but also "THE INSTRUCTOR OF THE NEWLY CREATED SAKER MARCHING BAND"!! Impressive Credentials, won't you say??!! Well, wait till you hear what else I subsequently found out regarding his "SAKER CONNECTIONS":
- HIS MOTHER IS NONE OTHER THAN LATE PIONEER HANNAH KALE, STUDENT #11, (SEE PICTURE BELOW) Which makes him a "CARAT"and,
- HE IS MARRIED TO SAKERETTE ELIZABETH LYONGA, STUDENT #1839 (Class of 1987), which makes him a "CAT"!!!
ABOUT THE BAND
Says Mr. Ngale:
" I have 80 Members in the band, with 18 Instruments. The girls did wonderfully well in their first outing, during the 2014 Youth Day Feast. The Competition is very keen amongst the schools.
THE BAND INSTRUCTOR'S DREAM
My dream is to stamp SAKER not only as a School known for having the best Singers, but also Wonderful Trumpeters, Drummers, and Drum Majors. We are on, and shall never stop till we see this come true!
HIS PLEA/APPEAL/WISH
The Principal has already set the pace with the initial instruments but, given the very keen competition from other schools, we do need
AN ULTRA MODERN SET OF INSTRUMENTS WITH UNIFORMS
(The School's Contact Information is posted at the top of this page)

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you oh! ExSSA-CAMEROON has done it again! They buildeth this BEAUTIFUL EMBANKMENT, complete with DRAINAGE below oh!
ONCE UPON A TIME ...
There was this part of SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE that was referred to as
"KING HOUSE LAWN" ...
It was a favorite spot for "SNAFFING", "JARRING', COCONUT PICKING, and the KENNEDY DORM/UNDER THE MANGO TREE end of it was a KANDA & FRYING FISH BUYING Zone when MA HADDIE and/or MA FONJONG came a-selling! In fact, it serves as the SETTING for SCENE I of the HILARIOUS SKIT I posted a couple of days ago on the "STUDENT LIFE" Page of this same website!
However, what that precious piece of land was BEST KNOWN for, was for being the SCENE for MISS KERN'S INFAMOUS EASTER & CHRISTMAS PLAYS/CONCERTS, which were Loved not just by US, Sakerettes, but also by the population of VICTORIA, and its surrounding cities! It was an HONOR and such a PRIVILEGE to be invited to attend these EVENTS!
The Dining Hall/Henderson Dorm End of KING HOUSE LAWN with the hedge that was next to the steps leading to the DH.
The Mango Tree/Kennedy Dorm End of the Lawn.
(My Goodness! Look at all those "ONE BITES" on that tree.)
Then the School's Population GREW, and with it, the need for more dorms so by the late 80s / early 90s ...
Half of BURNLEY HOUSE is in place, and some of the KING HOUSE LAWN is still visible ... (Ms Christy MENYOLI)
The hedge that formed the "BOUNDARY" between KING HOUSE LAWN and the Steps leading to the Dining Hall is now hemmed between the Burnley House Wall and the Steps!
THEN, BAM! Here's BURNLEY HOUSE last year, 2013, COMPLETE ... and RENOVATED by ExSSA-CAMEROON, with "KING HOUSE LAWN" - and "The Hedge" totally a Distant Memory now!!
AND THEN BAM-BAM-BAM!!!
Yes! "KING HOUSE LAWN" is gone, but there is a bettah CHAPEL to stage plays and concerts in its place!
And, YES! "THE HEDGE" is gone, but this is, quite a GREAT "Background" for PICTURE DAY, and I do not see "PARAMOUNT", "APOLLO" or "EVERGREEN" disagreeing with me at all!
All I have left to say then is,
EXSSA-CAMEROON, OYAAAAAAAAAAAY!

MISS WORLD CAMEROON 2014 TO LAUNCH AWARD AT SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE AS SHE PROMOTES SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING & MATH EDUCATION FOR GIRLS IN CAMEROON
CHLOE, My little girl; Living in France, studying in French but brought up by English-speaking parents is 9 yrs and some months old (the French call it "Neuf ans et poussiére") and is in what our generation would call class 6 primary school (today class 5). With one more year to go in her primary education, she surprises her teachers and principal with remarkably good grades, I am talking A++ in the first term. I am told at the Christmas play that if she continues as such she will be promoted straight to college or shall I say secondary school. I leave the theater with a SPRING in my step.
At the end of the second term, her performance surpassed the first term's, so now I have a BOUNCE to my walk and I am the proudest mother ever! Then I start to worry, asking myself questions: She is not old enough for college! I haven’t even found a school for her yet!, etc . Those of you married to spouses who are not from the same village, the same town, the same country and, worst of all, the same continent as you are, would sympathize with me because taking crucial decisions which incorporate vital life values is challenging, just because we have different world views. Married to a typical English man with no ragged edges with me having been "born and bred" in Cameroon - with several rough edges, meant that, choosing the right college for Chloe became the delicate subject of many a late night conjugal debate.
This is how the debates started: – Our daughter is already bilingual and French education does not conquer the world – agreed! Easy. A Bilingual college would be perfect, and this automatically meant Cameroon and/or Canada. Well, this my Oga did not like him the sound of this, and hastened to quip: "Why not English only?" So, USA,UK, Ireland, South Africa all came into the picture. Given the short period we had left to look for a school and bearing in mind that the UK and Ireland only take first year secondary school children at age 11 ( I must say I found this absurd as the entrance is not based on knowledge but age), things were beginning to narrow themselves down to just a few countries. So, I quickly Jump up and declare: "Cameroon – Saker Baptist college!"
Straight to the internet he went, to google "S-A-K-E-R". First hit: Saker Pride! Thanks to you sister Egbe, this man spent 8 hours on the site, and came back to tell me at past midnight, that King House was being re-roofed, to which I answered, "What?" To conclude, because of Saker Pride, the decision to go to Saker was made easily and quickly. But I still had work to do to prepare Chloe mentally for the upcoming differences in cuisine, pace, cold water bucket baths, etc… I was up to the task, and she was ready to please Mummy, YES; but most especially, she was excited to be going to the same college as Mummy.
Our adventure began on the 20th of August 2014. From London Heathrow, via Paris, Charles de Gaulle to Douala – Cameroon. All we had was two weeks adaptation period before we hit the Saker Gates. I wanted this adventure to be special, so I decided we begin by "coughing up" a little more money for the flight; – No Economy class oh, ma pikin; You deserve better, Chloe!
We land in Douala and ... na we two di waka! It was Marché Central, day one; Mahima, day two; Ndokoti, day 3. We were ready: trunk, mattress, and all! Ah; One funny thing! Chloe had never seen a lance and asked me: “ what is a lance?”, to which I answered "A miniature machete". To which she commented; "Why would they need that? It sounds dangerous; What happened to lawn mowers?" I giggled and answered "Poor power supply"!… When we were done shopping and marking names we paid a visit to Saker. (Notice her excitement- this is not a "say cheese" picture oh! It is clear cut happiness).
Then it was the nightmare of cutting her hair oh boy!… I had to work on my motherly skills. It came in the end, my joke: – on holidays you will have long extensions, you pick your length I pay for it. Your friends in Europe will never see you with short hair anyway.… "Hmmm" is what I got for an answer!. Pic 4 below: short hair, sad face, – but it did not last for long; Pic 5 below: Notice the thumbs up with her big/dulong and her Aunty ( Sister Comfort Mbuagbaw, a sakerette as well)… It was smoother than I thought. She was ready, she was happy, her name had Glassnapp" next to it, and she jumped on me and squealed, "Mummy! Same dormitory as you!!" … Then it was time for me to leave – Pic 6: in school gear - She cried! This I took as normal; she thinks of me as her world, her protector, her guide. Little does she know that it isn’t me, but The Lord, who has been protecting and will always protect her….
She made me promise to visit her on the second visiting Saturday. I always keep to my promises, I am one of those… Then I was gone, on the night flight back to Paris.
On the flight, I felt I had achieved something significant – my daughter had gone in search of inner beauty, and values that are not common in the west: respect, humility, a desire/hunger to achieve, to create and impact mankind, - a kind of world view wherein hurdles are not seen as obstacles, but as challenges or stepping stones: the importance of family – this is the education I want for her, not just A-grades in English, Math, History, etc, but an all rounded education to make her an all rounded, well adjusted, powerful woman. But I cried too…
A Note To Parents: When you take a decision about your child, be very sure, and be prepared to work at it to facilitate the child’s mission. Be aware of the negative comments but stay strong – I heard from fellow Sakerettes – "Will she cope?"; I heard the dreaded word - "toilets"; oh dear! "She will have to cut her hair!" "Cameroon education is S--T, I cannot send my child to study in that country!" etc, etc. I had a response for all of those comments; She will cope, after all she has my spirit hidden somewhere in her; she will learn to adapt; she will squat instead of sit, to use the toilets if need be; hair is outer beauty; she is in search of inner beauty; about Cameroon education, – it depends on your definition of education. For me, it is not just passing subjects, but acquiring and developing skills and values that she will use and feed on in her adulthood. {... And Ma SakerPride screameth: "AMEN OH!"}
To end my story, a phone call after one week at Saker confirms that Chloe is doing fine- in their own words, “very neat, very organized, time conscious and is adapting better than most kids born and raised in Cameroon”. Of course we, (mum, dad and brother), miss her at home but she is gone for an adventure and will return to tell us her own side of the story.
Reopening day in front of Saker Gate with cousins
I'll be frank: One of the things I was looking forward to as I set off to attend the ExSSA-UK Convention, was a possible repeat of Doreen Mbuagbaw's MICHAEL JACKSON performance, complete with the Moonwalk, only for me to get there and "shine eye". YUP! ExSSA-UK's resident-in-France, Member-At-Large extraordinaire, was a NO SHOW! The story she tells below explains just why she was unavoidably absent.
Talk about a FANTASTIC reason for "lebbing"!!!
Just thought someone other than me might be interested in re-viewing that Michael Jackson performance from last year!
SHE'S BAAAAD!

Miss Larissa Ngangoum, Miss World Cameroon 2014, arrived in Limbe on Sunday September 14th to kick off a Nationwide Tour of Schools in Cameroon, Promoting Quality Education for Underprivileged Children and Encouraging Girls to Take on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
Larissa is determined to bridge the gap that exists between male and female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). There are more boys pursuing STEM in Cameroon than girls and she wants to change that by encouraging more girls to take an interest in these areas. She will be launching The Larissa Ngangoum STEM Awards for Girls, to honor those who excel in STEM subjects.
She selected Saker Baptist College in Limbe, an all girls Christian institution known for its excellence, to launch this Award. She will spend time with the girls in their Science classes, share their experiences and use the opportunity to inspire and encourage them to pursue STEM, using her own experience as a 4th year Pharmacy student whose plan is to open her own Pharmacy in Cameroon in the near future.
Miss World Cameroon Larissa Ngangoum is scheduled to Visit the following Schools in the South West Region from Tuesday to Friday of this Week.
Roman Catholic School, Gardens, Limbe
National Comprehensive High School, Limbe
Saker Baptist College Limbe
Baptist High School Buea
The Beauty Queen who was crowned in Yaounde in July 2014, is a 4th year Student at a School of Pharmacy in Maryland USA. She entered the Miss Cameroon Contest after winning the Miss Cameroon USA title in 2013. She is the youngest daughter among 5 girls, born and raised in Yaounde, the nation's capital. She says growing up with a single mother of 5 girls was very tough until she got an opportunity to pursue higher education in the United States. Today she wants to inspire children to stay focused in school and build their dreams.
To Support Queen Larissa in her efforts to impact the lives of children in Cameroon, please visit her fund raising Page and make a donation.
She went on to make the following statement right after her visit to the school:
"Dearest Family, Friends and Fans: Here are a few candid shots out of your Queen's cell phone. This was at the famous Saker Baptist College in Limbe, Southwest region, an all girls boarding school renowned for its high academic standards. Saker has produced some of the brightest women in Cameroon and West Africa, and many of them currently hold leadership positions all over the world. So I finally lived my own dream of being a boarding school student for a day, as much as I used the opportunity to talk to these wonderful girls about the importance of education, particularly in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). I also used the occasion to launch my Larissa Ngangoum Scholarship Award for the Best Female STEM Student at the end of the academic year. With your help, we can make it a permanent award in the future."
THE VISIT TO S.B.C.!!!
Says Larissa here:
"I'm on my way to the famous Saker Baptist College today to meet the students and launch my STEM Scholarship Award. I'm so excited because I never attended a boarding school before, and this is my day of joy!"
By the way, she also visited Baptist High School Buea, (former BBSS), and crowned the shy young girl with her in this picture to the right, Miss Cameroon of the Day, to the applause of her schoolmates

MORE COMMENTS FROM "THE QUEEN"
"I just want to say that my trip to Saker Baptist College Limbe was very, very special. The school is known for its excellent standards in education and grooming of young Cameroonian Girls. I chose to launch My STEM STRONG GIRLS Award at Saker because I believe in the potential of the Girl Child. I was so touched by all the girls I met. I got the opportunity to sit in their classrooms to encourage and inspire them. I believe the future of Cameroon lies in its young women and STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is the future. I hope to reach out to other Girls Colleges in the country. Thank you Saker Baptist College."

TAKES ON A VERY SPECIAL TWIST!!!
For well over a decade now, ExSSA-USA's HOUSTON CHAPTER (ExSSA-HOUSTON) has been awarding SCHOLARSHIPS to deserving students at SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE. Last year was no exception, so on the 9th of December 2014, the Scholarship Award Ceremony took place, just like in the preceding years BUT THIS TIME, things went a little differently!
The One Million Six Hundred Thousand Francs sent was intended for four (4) full scholarships of four hundred thousand francs per Student. However, the preselected 4 beneficiaries were magnanimous and selfless enough to approach the Principal - Ms STELLA MATUKE, and tell her that there were other students who deserved some help as well. The scholarships therefore wound up going to 8 Students, each of them receiving Two Hundred Thousand Francs!! HOW TOUCHING!!!
ExSSA-LIMBE's President, Mrs. EYERE TAKOR presided over the Ceremony, standing in for ExSSA-CAMEROON's President, JUSTICE HELEN FON ACHU. She was accompanied in her mission by PIONEER Ms MARIE MUKETE. Also present were the SBC Staff, the Parents of the Beneficiaries, and the entire student body as well, given that the Ceremony took place during the Morning Assembly.

A Jumbled Up Array of Experiences - I am Always Wondering
My mother insist I write this message to my aunties and uncles who have been praying for me through my second year at Saker. But most especially she says my message will inspire a few young “Sakerettes to be” or completely put them off based on my reality stories.
My experience in form 2 is for the most part similar to that of form 1 only with a splash of nearly a senior student. As I sail through my daily chores of scrubbing the dormitory, table serving, table captain, pots washing and most especially keeping my very own property clean and organised I don’t lose focus on time keeping as this is crucial in keeping your name out of the punishment list. Luckily, I don’t get to do all these chores on one day as they chop and change as the case may be. While I struggled with some of these activities in form one, they were less challenging in my second year hence I never had my name on the punishment list all year – this I am particularly proud off.
Outside general housekeeping, dormitory life is full of activities and events which will all nicely fit in an 80 leaves exercise book. Some bring forth sadness and others laughter. The saddest parts for me is when my things disappear or when the dorm cap is particularly grumpy but for the most part laughter and shock prevails: – Poo suddenly finds itself on the lawn and I wonder how and why?; Buckets of water decorated with a floating panty each and I wonder what’s the reason – I understand it is to stop your water from migrating and I join the dip pant cult; A girl smuggles in apple juice look-alike alcohol and a few drunken students are discovered. Some end up in hospital for some sort of intoxication. This leads to dismissal and suspension and I am left wondering why such harsh punishment when my parents drink alcohol but never end up in hospital. I figure out I should warn mum to stay away from any apple juice type alcohol. All of this is boarding school life my mum says, but then again nothing surprises her. I am left wondering if she had same or worse in her time.
One day I went for my early morning rushed bucket bath and upon my return I could not find my glasses. This was the worst day for me. I knew my mum would wear an ugly face and call me careless. I prayed that the saying “Saker girls don’t steal; they only take” is well and truly true because if someone "took", they would sure "return" right? ...

CLASS OF 1996 - 2001/2003 DAMSELS CELEBRATE THEIR 20 YEAR FRIENDSHIP BY
GIVING BACK TO SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE!!!
(Sunday, November 20 2016)
KUDOS TO THE DYNAMIC G96-ERS!!!
September 2016 Marked 20 years since the class of 1996 first set foot in SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE.
Instead of just having themselves a Champagne and Caviar shindig or Boat Cruise to some far off land, (which is no crime, by the way), they felt and ACTED on the need to give back to a school which they credit for giving them a solid Educational Background, A firm Christian Foundation, high Moral Standards, True Sister-Friends and so much more.
That is why, on Sunday, November 20th 2016, they presented to the staff a refurbished Staff Room (Walls, Cupboards and Shelves painted, new Curtains hung, new Tables and Chairs, Tea cups, Coffee Maker, provided, etc.) They did not stop there! They went on to give a TALK to the Form 5, L6 & U6 Students on a range of pertinent topics notably:
Career Options, Staying a Christian after SBC, Morals and Values, If You Must "FALL BUSH". (LOL!)
As expected, the enthused Staff and Student Body expressed sincere gratitude for this remarkable gesture; A truly exemplary act for which they deserve to be commended!
BRAVO, Ladies! Thank you for doing something that not just benefits the students, but also their teachers, without whom our Alma Mater would not be registering the outstanding results at the GCE that make us all so very proud!

A 1,889,000 CFA FRANC RENOVATION OF THE COLLEGE'S BASKET/VOLLEYBALL COURT!
(Saturday, October 26th 2019)
No one who was at SBC on Saturday October 26th is likely to ever forget what happened at at 10 a.m., for that is when the school's just-renovated-to-the-tune-of- 1,889,000 CFA Francs basketball/volleyball court was officially handed over to the school authorities by the CLASS OF 1969 MAJORS, as their contribution to their Alma Mater, to mark their 50th Anniversary since they graduated from SBC!
The court was handed over by MAJOR Augusta Tabi Tambe Nkongho and the CLASS OF '69 MAJORS who reside in Limbe (I did spot Mrs. Juliet Kange Kemmer and Mrs. Eyere Mbiwan Takor, as well as Class of 1968's Ms Christiana Monjimbo in the pictures!)
As the posted PHOTO/VIDEO ALBUM shows, the EVENT was a JOYFUL one that included AN INAUGURAL BASKETBALL GAME with VERY enthusiastic cheering by the student spectators who, I would say, did a fairly decent job singing the SBC School Song!!
KUDOS, CLASS OF 1969 MAJORS!!! THANK YOU for GIVING BACK &
HAPPY 50th TO YOU ALL!!!

SBC's Basketball Court as Ma SakerPride "snaffed" it in January of 2016! Compare and Contrast ...
Decision Number CBC/EP/NCM-LCM/039/2022 signed yesterday FRIDAY, JUNE 24th 2022 by the EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF THE CAMEROON BAPTIST CONVENTION, Rev. Dr. C. M. NDITEMEH appoints Mrs. HANNAH MOTUTU nee BECKE, as PRINCIPAL of SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE, LIMBE, in replacement of Mr. GHAWI SHOMSI, appointed to other duties.
Yes, for the first time in the college's 60 year history, a GRADUATE of the establishment is at its helm, something many have longed to see happen.
In fact, just a few months ago, the school's first ever Geography Tutor, Mrs. PRISCILLA SONA nee AMONIBA said, when SakerPride interviewed her ahead of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, that she hoped this would happen in her lifetime!
Well, IT HAS!!!
HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. MOTUTU who, besides being a SAKERETTE herself, has 2 SAKERETTE Siblings, 2 SAKERETTE Sisters-in-law and a host of SAKERETTE extended family members, not forgetting the fact that she is following in the footsteps of her Father, LATE Mr. S.N.E. BECKE, erstwhile PRINCIPAL of G.H.S. LIMBE! GODSPEED, Ma'am! WE WISH YOU ONLY THE VERY BEST!
